Where the stock market and the Fed differ

US stock trades only settle on days the Federal Reserve's payment systems are open, and the Fed keeps its own holiday list. In 2027:

Mon 2027-10-11, Columbus Day: stocks trade, but the Fed is closed, so it isn't a settlement day.
Thu 2027-11-11, Veterans Day: stocks trade, but the Fed is closed, so it isn't a settlement day.
Fri 2027-03-26, Good Friday: the stock market is closed; the Fed is open.
Fri 2027-06-18, Juneteenth National Independence Day: the stock market is closed; the Fed is open (the holiday itself falls on a Saturday, and the Fed doesn't move Saturday holidays to Friday).
Fri 2027-12-24, Christmas: the stock market is closed; the Fed is open (the holiday itself falls on a Saturday, and the Fed doesn't move Saturday holidays to Friday).

That's why a trade on Friday 2027-10-08 settles on Tuesday 2027-10-12: when Friday and pre-holiday trades settle.
